Get your princess dress pressed, and your superhero costume out of the closet.

On Saturday, April 29, the NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference) fundraising committee from Sacred Heart Catholic Church will host two parties for area kids to attend. From 1-2 p.m., a princess party will take place at the Monticello Berndes Center, followed by a superhero party at the same location from 4-5 p.m.

The events are being organized to help the NCYC group raise money for this year’s conference in Indianapolis, Ind., Nov. 16-19. As of now, 76 people (high school youth and adults) are expected to attend. The adult sponsors will pay their own way; the group would like to raise $26,000 for the youth to attend.

Shelley Bronemann was the one who brought the princess party idea to the committee after taking her granddaughter to a similar princess event in Cedar Rapids recently. With so many people interested in attending, Bronemann said the event in Cedar Rapids had to cap the attendance.

“It was so cute and she (her granddaughter) loved it,” said Bronemann. “It lasted all day.”

Knowing a princess party might be good for girls, Bronemann said they needed an idea for boys in the community. That’s where the superhero theme came to mind.

The superhero party will feature a visit from Spiderman, Batman, Superman and other popular superhero friends for kids to visit with and get their picture taken. Participants are also encouraged to wear their superhero gear and enjoy music, games, food, and fun.

The princess tea party will feature Belle, Cinderella, Elsa, Anna and more Disney princesses. Those in attendance are also encouraged to wear their best princess dresses for the afternoon. There will also be food, music, and games.

Both events are for kids ages 2 and up. The registration fee is $15 per child and $2 per adult accompanying a child. Registration is due by Monday, April 17.

For the princess party, simply mail your payment, child’s name, age, e-mail address, and number of adults attending to Shelley Bronemann, 341 N. Pine St., Monticello, IA 52310.

For the superhero party, mail your payment, child’s name, age, e-mail address, and number of adults attending to Brian Bronemann, 341 N. Pine St., Monticello, IA 52310.

When your registration is received, you will get an e-mail confirmation that you will need to bring with you the day of the event.

All proceeds will go toward the NCYC trip in November.

“The youth really learn a lot about their religion,” explained Bronemann. “It’s a very uplifting and inspirational time.”

She said two years ago, the group from Sacred Heart met so many people from all over the country.

Of the themed parties, Bronemann said she just wants people to have fun. Refreshments will be served, and each child who attends either party will receive a free goodie bag as well.

“We’ll take as many kids as we can handle,” she encouraged.

Registration is required so the committee knows how many tables and chairs to set up, and how much food to make.
