Hello, my name is Blaine Becker.  I am the new wildlife biologist assisting the Jones Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

I will be working primarily on private lands to conserve wildlife habitat and improve water quality. My main responsibility will be assisting with the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). My work week is split between four counties, Jones, Dubuque, Jackson and Delaware.

I am from a small town in Central Iowa, New Hartford, which is 15 minutes west of Cedar Falls. I grew up spending much of my time in the outdoors; helping around the farm and roaming around the woods. I attended Dike-New Hartford High school and graduated in the Spring of 2016. After finishing high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a job that I could work outdoors that included habitat work.

I spent my first two years of college at Hawkeye Community College in the Natural Resources program, where I graduated in the Spring of 2018. After Hawkeye, I attended Upper Iowa University to get my bachelor’s degree in Conservation Management, where I graduated in the Spring of 2020.

A few of my hobbies in my spare time are hunting waterfowl, deer and turkey. My goal in Jones County is to get more CRP acres on the ground. I also want to assist landowners with all their (CRP) needs like seed plans and any questions on wildlife they may have.

For more information about installing practices to aid wildlife habitat, improve water quality and CRP, I can be contacted at 319-269-0784.
