New crosswalk

Last week, the City of Monticello installed two new pedestrian warning signals at the crosswalk by Monticello High School and Middle School. The new beacons were part of the Willow Trail extension project along Oak Street/Highway 38. One pedestrians active the lights by pushing the button located on the role, they have 20 seconds to cross the street. The lights on the signs will flash yellow, indicating that oncoming traffic from both directions must stop and yield to pedestrians. Police Chief Britt Smith warns motorists that they are advised to be prepared to stop when the lights are flashing to allow pedestrians to cross the street. The crossing beacons will be in operation 24/7. (Photo by Pete Temple)
