'New' Panthers celebrate season

GIRLS TRACK

     The Monticello High School girls track and field team celebrated its season with an awards event May 30 in the MHS Commons.

     “It was a season of all things new, rebuilding, making new friends, trying new things and building a new team,” head coach Vallerie Lynn wrote in a season summary packet. “We had a long road ahead of us, and it was filled with hard work and dedication.”

     Lynn and assistant coach Jenna Peters presented athletes with several awards to honor the season, in which five members of the team qualified for state competition.

TEAM AWARDS

     Sprinter of the Year: Leah Holub, junior.

     Field Event Award: Payton Jaeger, junior.

     Distance Runner of the Year: Karle Kramer, freshman.

     Most Improved: Triniti Etzel, freshman.

     Rookie Award: Emma Hynick, freshman.

     Leadership Award: Makenna Patterson, senior.

     Coaches’ Award: Jaelynn Kraus, senior.

     State Meet Qualifiers: Payton Jaeger, junior; Leah Holub, junior; Gabby Guilford, sophomore; Triniti Etzel, freshman; Karle Kramer, freshman.

     State Meet Placewinner: Gabby Guilford, sophomore.

     Conference Champion: Gabby Guilford, sophomore.
