Mobile food pantry returns, April 24

The Monticello Public Library is again partnering with the HACAP Food Reservoir in Hiawatha to bring HACAP’s mobile food pantry back to Monticello.

The unit will be parked in the library’s parking lot on Monday, April 24, from 3-4 p.m. If they run out of food, they will close sooner.

The mobile unit includes items not readily available at the community food pantry: fresh produce, frozen meat, bread, and bakery items. (Items will vary based on what the Reservoir has available at the time.)

Those who wish to volunteer to staff the mobile unit can contact Michelle Turnis at the library at 319-465-3354.

The Monticello Community Food Pantry will also be open on Monday, April 24, from 5-7 p.m.

Library celebrates Money Smart Week

The Monticello Public Library invites families to join in celebrating Money Smart Week on Saturday, April 22, from 10-11 a.m. Kite building and decorating and piggy bank decorating will be available to celebrate being money smart.

East Coast group plans fundraisers

A group of local students and adults are planning a trip to the East Coast to visit Washington, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia in June 2018. They have planned fundraising events to help raise the money needed for the trip.

On Friday, April 28, they will be hosting an open gym/skate and scooter party at the Monticello Berndes Center from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A concession stand will be available.

On Saturday, April 29, they will be running a sandbox fill event from 8 a.m. to noon. Sand will be delivered to those residing within city limits at a cost of $5 per wheelbarrow. (There will be a small delivery charge for those outside city limits.)

Contact Kati Besler at kati.besler@gmail.com to get on the delivery schedule. Include your name, address, location of the sandbox, and approximately how many wheelbarrows of sand you think you’ll need.
