Nickelback tickets for GJCF on sale Feb. 3

     The Great Jones County Fair in Monticello recently announced the sale date for tickets to see rock band Nickelback. Tickets go on sale online only on Friday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m.

     Track standing-room-only tickets are $55. Amphitheater and bleachers seats are $40. As always, the free hillside offers plenty of space to enjoy the concert, with numerous LED screens displayed around the grounds.

     Original band member, Mike Kroeger, worked at a Starbucks, dispensing coffee drinks and handing change back to customers saying, “Here’s your nickel back.”

     Thus the name of the famed group.

     Three Kroeger brothers (singer and guitarist Chad, bassist Mike, and drummer Brandon) as well as backup guitarist Ryan Peake made up Nickelback, which formed in Alberta, Canada.

     In 1999, Nickelback signed with a recording company and put out its debut album, “The State.” Their very first album, however, without a recording contract, came out in 1996, “Curb.”

     Since their start, Nickelback has put out eight albums, seven in-studio, from 1996 to 2014.

     Nickelback hit it big in the 1990s and early 2000s with such songs as “How You Remind Me,” “Photograph,” “How You Remind Me,” and “Hero.”

     Through the years, Nickelback has sold over 50 million album around the world. They are heralded as one of Canada’s most successful bands.

     Billboard has ranked Nickelback the second best-selling foreign act in the United States for the 2000 decade, behind The Beatles. “How You Remind Me” was the best-selling rick song of the decade.

     The band has shared some of its musical influences: Creedence Clearwater Revival, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Miles Davis, U2, and Bob Marley.

     Today, Nickelback’s band members consist of Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake, and Daniel Adair.

     Nickelback has won several International Achievement Awards from SOCAN (the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada): 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008.

     Over the years, they’ve been nominated for numerous Grammys, Billboard, and American Music awards. They band has won six Billboard awards over all since 2002.

     Nickelback will appear on stage at the Great Jones County Fair on Thursday, July 20 at 8 p.m. An opening act has yet to be announced.
