Onslow City Council votes against HACAP Mobile Food Pantry

To the Editor,
For several years, the HACAP Mobile Food Pantry has come once a month to the city hall parking lot in Onslow, Iowa. Cars would line up, and one at a time, would pull up to a set of orange cones where a group of dedicated volunteers would place the food in their vehicle and they would leave. There were never any problems.
At the last council meeting, the city leaders voted to not allow the pantry to be there anymore. I guess helping the needy is not important to them.
They say is it a liability.
For five days now, I have seen a tractor trailer rig parked in the city hall parking lot. I guess this is fine with the council.
So, if you are traveling north or south on Highway 136 and you get tired, just pull into the new truck stop in Onslow and take a nap. Please remember though, that we can’t serve food so eat before you come.
