Panther JV claims pair of triumphs

GIRLS BASKETBALL

     Monticello upped its junior varsity girls basketball record to 14-3 with a pair of wins last week.

     Monticello played a non-conference game at Midland Jan. 30 in Wyoming, and won 64-28, as Jaelyn Aitchison scored 20 points and made seven assists. Bronwyn Hodge added 11 points. and Brea Stahlberg had 10 points and five rebounds, and Reagan Schneiter had 10 points and five rebounds. Katie Roher had seven points. Piper Hansen had two points and four assists, while Kayla Simmons and Elise Kehoe scored two points apiece.

     “Balanced scoring and pressure defense were the keys,” Monticello coach Chuck Welsch said.

     The Panthers then played host to Anamosa one day later, and scored a 41-23 triumph. Aitchison had 12 points, seven steals and five rebounds. Hodge had five points and three steals, while Stahlberg and Hansen scored five points each. Schneiter had four points and nine rebounds. Roher also had four points. Scoring two points apiece were Bella Mullen, Triniti Etzel and Lisa Dios.

     “We only gave up three offensive rebounds,” Welsch said. “Reagan did a great job rebounding and making a good outlet pass to start the break.”
