Panther JV faces three RVC foes

Junior varsity

     Monticello’s junior varsity volleyball team played three matches against River Valley Conference opponents over the past two weeks, all of which resulted in narrow losses.

     On Sept. 15, the Panthers lost to Cascade 23-25, 22-25. Emma Porter had 13 assists, six digs and three aces. Keziah McQuillen had four kills and 10 digs. Lacie Koppes had five kills and two aces. Madison Butterworth had six digs, two kills, and served 10-for-10 with three aces.

     At home against Wilton Sept. 17, the Panthers lost 19-25, 23-25. Jaelyn Aitchison had five kills and five digs. Koppes had three kills and two aces. Porter contributed nine assists, six digs and three aces. Jordan Fangmann had nine digs. Aubree Fairley served 9-for-10, and had two digs.

     Camanche paid a visit to Monticello Sept. 24, and the Panthers lost in three sets, 22-25, 25-14, 14-16. Porter had 20 assists and five digs in the match. Koppes had eight kills, and served 13-for-14 with six aces. Piper Hansen had six kills and four digs. Kendra Mescher had three kills and two aces. Fangmann had 10 digs. Emma Sperfslage had nine digs and two assists.

     “We’ll continue to work on increasing our serving percentage and being aggressive on offense,” Monticello coach Kylie Nagel said. “This team is very young, but is picking up new concepts quickly.”

 

Freshman team

     Monticello played four matches of freshman volleyball in recent action, winning three of them.

     On Sept. 21, the Panthers played host to Center Point-Urbana, and split two matches. The A team lost 21-19, 17-21, 8-15. Taylor Gassman had four digs, five assists, and served 7-for-8. Gabi Barnhart had three kills, four digs, two aces, and served 10-for-11. Sami McElmeel had five assist and two digs. Kinzi Schlarmann had three kills. Raegan LaGrange had three kills. Kendra Jacobs had sic digs and served 5-for-5.

     In the B match, Monticello won 21-15, 17-21, 15-9. Lake Schnoor had two kills. Schlarmann had three digs. Abby Sharlow had two kills. Sami McElmeel had three aces and two assists, while Barnhart had two aces and two assists.

     Monticello also played host to Western Dubuque Sept. 22, and won both matches. The A team prevailed 21-16, 21-8, 15-7. Gasman had four assists and three aces. Barnhart had two aces and two digs. Sharlow had five aces and four kills. Schlarmann had five kills, four aces and two digs. LaGrange had two kills and two aces. Jacobs had two digs.

     The Panthers also won the B match, 21-19, 21-17, 15-12. Alex McElmeel had two kills and two aces. Gassman made four assists. Barnhart had two aces. Sami McElmeel had three aces and two assists. Schlarmann had four digs and three aces. LaGrange had two aces. Jacobs had two digs.

 

Eighth-grade team

     Monticello’s eighth-grade volleyball teams played host to Camanche Sept. 24, and went 1-0-1.

     The A team swept the Indians 21-13, 21-15. Mya Hansen had 10 assists, two digs, and served 9-for-9 with two aces. Lydia Ahlrichs served 11-for-11 with two aces. Jayden Kuper had eight kills, three digs and two assists. Haili Schlarmann had three digs. Madilynn Kromminga had four kills, six digs and three aces. Jessica Stadtmueller served 4-for-4.

     In the B match, Monticello won the first set 15-12 and lost the second 12-15. Hailey Henderson served 7-for-7 with three aces. Getting two aces apiece were Cadence Olson, Kylie Bauer and Kylah Schilling.
