Panther JV stays unbeaten

GIRLS BASKETBALL

     Two River Valley Conference games resulted in two more wins for the undefeated Monticello junior varsity girls basketball team last week.

     The Panthers (5-0) played at West Liberty Dec. 4, and scored a 42-24 win after jumping to a 21-6 halftime lead.

     Beka Prull led the Panthers in scoring with 15 points. Bronwyn Hodge had eight points and seven rebounds. Karli Recker had seven points, seven assists and four rebounds. DeLainy Fellinger had four points, four rebounds and three steals. Lydia Recker had three points and four steals. Also scoring were Mallory Steiner with three points and Piper Hansen with two.

     On Dec. 7, the Panthers posted a 35-23 home victory over Wilton. Monticello led that one 17-7 at the halftime break.

     “Against Wilton we did a much better job passing and receiving the ball,” Monticello coach Chuck Welsch said.

     Recker led the way with 19 points, making three baskets from beyond the three-point arc. Lydia Recker had seven points, five assists and two steals. Emma Hynick had four points. Hodge had two points and five rebounds. Kylee Van Dorn had two points. Fellinger had one point and grabbed five rebounds. Hansen had four rebounds.
