The Monticello junior varsity girls basketball team just keeps rolling.

Three more wins last week lifted the Panthers to a record of 7-0, including 5-0 against River Valley Conference foes.

Monticello traveled to Camanche to start its week, and won 57-38 after taking a 32-20 halftime lead. Three Panthers scored in double figures: Gabby Steiner with 17 points, Gabby Guilford with 12 and Beka Prull with 11. Also scoring were Karli Recker with six, Tori McDonald with four, DeLainy Fellinger with three, Emily Schlarmann and Dru Kramer with two apiece.

On Dec. 8, the Panthers took their home court and scored a 60-21 win over North Cedar. Monticello trailed the Knights 12-9 after one quarter, but outscored them 51-9 the rest of the way. All nine Panthers scored: Schlarmann and Guilford had 11 apiece, McDonald had nine, Steiner and Recker added seven each, Fellinger chipped in six, Prull had five, Megan Mahoney and Kramer added two apiece.

Monticello then played host to neighboring rival Anamosa, and jumped to a 39-6 halftime lead on the way to a 57-11 win. Prull led the way with 17 points, Steiner scored 15, Guilford added 12, Schlarmann had six, Recker had three, McDonald had two, Kramer and Fellinger had one apiece.

“Camanche and Anamosa had winning records and very good teams,” Monticello coach Chuck Welsch said. “Against Anamosa, we came out with a lot of energy, and focused on tough defense and finishing plays. It was a great effort by everyone.”
