Panther wrestlers excel in two meets

Wrestling

     Seven Monticello Middle School wrestlers posted unbeaten records during a Nov. 12 meet at Camanche, one of two meets in which the Panthers competed last week.

     Going 2-0 against Camanche were Elias Etzel, Gavin Fuhrmeister, Kale Hansen, Dakota Olson, Cael Sampson and Zach Yates. Trey Brady went 1-0.

     The Panthers also traveled to West Branch Nov. 15, where Dylan Roher, Hansen and Sampson all went 2-0. Brady was 1-0 in that meet.

 

Eighth-grade

Girls’ basketball

     The Monticello eighth-grade girls’ basketball team swept two home games against Anamosa Nov. 12, with the A team winning 33-14 and the B team pulling out a 10-8 triumph.

     In the A game, Madison Butterworth scored 11 points, Brea Stahlberg had 10, whiel Reagan Schneiter and Jaelyn Aitchison added six apiece.

     Aleasha Schilling scored six points and Bella Mullen added four points for Monticello in the B game.

 

Seventh-grade

Girls’ basketball

     It was a busy week for the Monticello seventh-grade girls’ basketball team, which faced three opponents last week.

     The Panthers played host to Anamosa Nov. 12, with Monticello Red winning 31-17 and Monticello White finishing in a 12-12 tie with the Blue Raiders.

     On Nov. 13, Monticello played host to Northeast of Goose Lake. The Red lost 33-31, and the White won 20-0.

     At Camanche Nov. 15, Monticello teams won two games. The Red coming from behind to win 20-15, shooting 8-for-12 from the free throw line. The White won 6-4.
