Panthers' 4x100 relay advances to Drake

     Monticello will send its 4x100-meter relay team to the Drake Relays, as a result of its performances in a pair of boys track meets last week.

     The team of Max Keleher, Andrew Tjaden, Taylor Manternach and Andrew Mescher posted its best time of the season, 45.05 seconds, during the Tipton Co-ed meet on April 18. That allowed them to work into the field of 80 relay teams that will compete in the Friday evening session of the Drake Relays, April 28 in Des Moines.

     Meanwhile, the Panthers had some other big performances in their two meets, at Tipton and then the Monticello Co-ed meet on April 20.

     Avery Martensen won the 110-meter hurdles at Tipton, and took second in the high jump. Monticello also won the distance medley relay, and was second in the 4x100 with the aforementioned time.

     As a team, the Panthers placed fourth out of five.

     In the home meet, Martensen recorded two victories, in the 110 hurdles and the high jump. Aaron Loes won the 3,200, and the 4x100 team also won, with the team of Keleher, Gavin Cooper, Manternach and Mescher.

     The Panthers also competed in the Marion junior varsity meet April 17. No team scores were kept, but a highlight there was Cole Cruise’s victory in the 3,200.
