Monticello picked up points in a lot of areas during a pair of boys track and field meets last week.

First, the Panthers competed in the annual Fearing Relays April 4 in Anamosa. The Panthers were 10th as a team with 17 points, placing in six events. The highest finish was a third place from Aaron Loes in the 3,200-meter run.

“Tyler Hospodarsky had two personal bests,” Monticello coach Greg Williams said. “He ran a great anchor leg on the 1,600 (distance) medley relay. He came back later to run his fastest time ever in the 1,600.”

On Friday, April 7, Monticello took ninth place out of 15 teams at the Tiger Relays in Tipton, a meet held in extremely windy conditions.

“Avery Martensen competed well in the high jump,” Williams said. “Our throwers continue to improve with each meet.”

Martensen was second in the high jump with a height of 5-foot-8. In junior varsity events, Wesley Henderson won the discus, and the Panthers were second in the 4x100, 4x800 and sprint medley relay.
