Panthers face Cardinals, Rebels

Fresh-soph team

   Monticello’s freshman-sophomore volleyball team played host to the Maquoketa Cardinals Sept. 29, and lost in two sets.

   Hannah Butterworth had three kills for the Panthers. Jessica Stadtmueller had two kills. Andrea Giegerich had two digs, and Haili Schlarmann had two assists. Ava Zimmerman posted one kill, one ace and one dig. Macy Dusanek had one kill and one dig. Koye Jaeger had one ace and one assist.

 

Eighth-grade team

   Home matches against Maquoketa and Northeast of Goose Lake occupied the Monticello eighth-grade volleyball team the past two weeks.

   On Sept. 29, the Panthers faced Maquoketa. And A team lost a tight one, 21-15, 18-21, 13-15. Addison Norton had four aces, four assists and three digs. Greta Cooper had two aces and two digs. Peyton Ries served 10-for-10 with seven aces, and added two digs. Avery Jurgens had six digs. Karley Tobiason had two kills. Brynn Schmit had two digs. Emma Kromminga served 9-for-9 with four aces.

   The B team won two of six sets, with scores of 14-16, 15-12, 11-15, 15-11, 6-15, 9-15. Macky Marlowe served four aces. Meghan Besler had two aces and one kill. Macey Burlage also had a kill.

   More recently, the Panthers played host to the Northeast Rebels Oct. 6. The A team lost 21-11, 19-21, 7-15. Norton had eight aces, six assists and two digs. Stella McDermott had three kills. Ries had two kills and two digs. Kayla Shady served 9-for-10 with three aces. Jurgens had two kills and two digs. Schmit had four digs, while Cooper and Kromminga had two digs apiece.

   In the B match, Monticello lost 11-15, 10-15, 4-15. Burlage had seven aces and three assists. Laila Atkinson had five aces and three assists. Tobiason had four kills. Marissa Speltz had two kills. Adalyn Monk served three aces.

 

Seventh-grade team

   The Monticello seventh-grade volleyball team ended its season with a pair of home matches over the past two weeks.

   Against Maquoketa Sept. 29, the Panthers won three matches. The A team won 15-21, 21-11, 15-8. Mallory McElmeel had two kills and two aces. Kylee McElmeel served five aces. Emily Leytem had three aces and two assists. Peytin Schultz served two aces. Alex Shover had one kill.

   The B team won 15-10, 15-6, 15-9; and the C team rallied to win 10-15, 15-12, 19-17. Serving aces were Amber Christiansen with seven, Lizzy Eilers with five, Jordan Stoll and Aliyah Camp with four apiece, Elianna Hanna with three, Gemma Haas, Aliyah Camp and Emma Bruggeman with two each; Kat Olivarez and Lauren Brunscheen with one each.

   Monticello’s final match was against Northeast of Goose Lake Oct. 6. The A team lost 12-21, 21-9, 11-15; and the B team fell 5-15, 10-15. Leytem served three aces and had one kill. Schultz also served three aces. Mallory McElmeel had two kills, while Kylee McElmeel, Charlett Smith and Shover had one kill apiece.

   The A team finished 5-3 under coach Laura Schmitt. The B/C teams had a combined record of 4-5-2.
