Starting the season off with a home match against Marion, the Monticello boys bowling team fell to the Wolves, 2,818-2,770.
“We really only had two practices with the kids,” Panther coach Brian Meyer said. “So, I don’t think we were ready. I still think we have a very good chance of being a very competitive team, but I think the kids were nervous and their swings tightened up a little bit.”
After the individual round, the Panthers held a slim four-pin lead, 1,856-1,852.
Quinn Thomas led the Monti lineup, rolling games of 224 and 266 for a 490 series. Brayden Todd followed with a 382 (179-203) and Jacksen Telleen shot 347 (169-178) for the Panthers’ top three scores.
“We did average 180 in the baker round, which is better than what we thought we had done,” Meyer said. “They just out bowled in baker. They have a couple decent players and, obviously were better than we were.”
The Wolves rolled baker games of 192, 212, 197, 170 and 195 for a 966 total. Monti’s 224 and 182 made up some ground at the end, but the Wolves held on for the season opening win.
