After qualifying five events for last year’s state meet, the Monticello boys track and field team aims to improve that number this spring.

“I believe we can qualify a good number of events for the state meet,” said Panther coach Greg Williams, who’s entering his 32nd at the helm.

This year’s Panther squad features 22 returning letterwinners and 38 total members, featured by senior Lincoln Schnieter, who finished fourth in discus at the state meet last year.

“We’ll be strong in the 200s and 400s and believe we can improve on our 3:26 4x400 time at state,” Williams added. “Our distance guys continue to improve, so I’m excited to see how fast we can get.”

“We should be faster than last year,” assistant coach Donnie Kremer said. “The key will be staying healthy. We hope to improve in the long jump this year. We have a young group of jumpers that are eager to contribute too.”

Kremer, along with Dustin Chapman, coach the Panther sprinters. Jordan Williams in the throwers coach and Jeremy Rickels coaches the hurdlers.
