Panthers headed to State

     The Monticello High School Panther dance team is preparing for the Iowa State Dance Team Championships, to be held at Wells Fargo Arena and Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines on Thursday, Nov. 29 and Friday, Nov. 30.

     Monticello will perform on Thursday at the following times: 8:27 a.m. for Pom, 5:15 p.m. for Jazz, and 6:30 p.m. for Contemporary.

     There will be over 5000 participants representing 260 high school dance teams and color guards and 22 Iowa College dance teams. High School teams will be performing and judged in several categories: pom, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, kick, novelty, lights, military, hip hop, hoopla, prop, hoopla, show production, color guard, all-male and coed.

     The teams are judged by an expert panel of judges from across the United States. The judges’ scores are based on appearance, choreography, execution, technique and general effect/showmanship. Teams will be awarded Division I, II, III ratings along with trophy placements for those teams with the highest point totals.

     The doors open at 7 a.m. for spectators. The competition begins at 8 a.m. with awards ceremonies both days at approximately 8 p.m.

     There are no advance ticket sales. All seats are general admission. Ticket cost is $10 per day or $18 for a two-day pass.
