Panthers honored for successful season
A season that saw the Monticello High School girls basketball team finish with a 12-7 record was celebrated during the team’s awards banquet April 8 in the MHS Commons.
Head coach Donnie Kremer praised the team’s steady improvement throughout the season.
“Where we came from to where we ended up was totally different,” Kremer said.
The team set school records for fewest turnovers in a season (243, breaking a record set in the 1988-89 season), and most rebounds in a game (56, at Camanche). Junior Jordan Kuper set a school season record for rebounds, averaging 11.2 per game.
Kremer also noted that this year’s seniors had a combined 32-13 record over the past two seasons.
“We lost two 1,000-point scorers (to graduation), and a lot of girls filled those roles,” Kremer said. “The team aspect of this group was unreal. It was one of the most team-oriented teams I’ve had.”
The entire team was honored for being Academic All-Conference.
Junior varsity coach Chuck Welsch talked about his team, which went 17-0 and averaged better than 38 points per game.
