Panthers outplay two foes

     Monticello showed its competitive abilities in a pair of season-opening girls golf matches last week, playing in two reasonably close contests and coming out on top in both.

     The Panthers traveled to Preston to play Northeast of Goose Lake April 5 at the Plum River Golf Course, and scored a 12-stroke victory, 197 to 209.

     Drucilla Kramer was meet medalist with a 44, and Rebekah Prull was the meet runner-up with a 46. The Panthers also counted a 52 from Tori McDonald and a 55 from Jaelyn Aitchison.

     Then, Monticello played its home opener April 6 against North Cedar, and this time won by 15, 219 to 234.

     Kramer again led the way, shooting a 50 to be meet runner-up behind North Cedar’s Parker Stout, who had a 48. Prull shot 52, McDonald 58 and Aitchison 59.

     Monticello’s junior varsity golfers also played in both meets, but neither opponent had enough players (four are needed) to record a team score. Piper Hansen led the Panther JV against Northeast with a 61, and Kylee Van Dorn shot 67 to lead the JV in the North Cedar match.
