Panthers place at conference meet

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

   Wrapping up the middle school track season, the Monticello seventh and eighth grade girls’ track and field teams finished third and second, respectively, at the River Valley Conference North Division Meet, May 13, in Cascade.

   For the eighth grade team, seven first-place finishes led the way.

   Kenya Davis-Robinson notched three individual wins, Mary Grace Lyons picked up a pair. Davis-Robinson won the 100-meter dash (13.16), 200 (28.83) and was the long jump champion, breaking her own school record with a jump of 16-1. Lyons won the 1,500 in 5:13 and the 800 (2:31).

   The Panthers also topped the field in a pair of relay races.

   Kayla Arduser, Jorja Jacobs, Whitney Long and Emerlynn Wright won the shuttle hurdle relay (1:17) and Larkyn Luensman, Reagan Stoll, Lindsey Ruchti and Lyons won the distance medley (4:45).

   Second-place finishes went to Mia Gomez, Drea Burkle, Lily Hall and Malin Phelps in the 4x800 (12:10) and Wright, Arduser, Jacobs and Davis-Robinson in the 4x100 (54.59).

   Phelps took third in the 400 (1:13) and in the discus (72-2), as did Gomez in the 1,500 (5:13).

   Wright finished fourth in the 100-hurdles (18.89), as did the 4x400 team of Luesnman, Long, Hall and Ruchti (4:58).

   Phelps finished fifth in the 800 (3:01), same with Wright in the long jump (14-0).

   Long took seventh in high jump (4-3) and Stoll, Sydney Sparks, Maci Manternach and Sophia Moine were eighth in the 4x200 (2:26) to round out the eighth grade’s top finishes.

   In the eighth grade team race, Northeast took the team title with 175 points. Monticello was runner-up with 140, followed by Camanche in third (87.5), Anamosa fourth (75), Maquoketa fifth (72), Cascade sixth (57), Bellevue seventh (34) and Beckman eighth (24.5).

   For the seventh grade Panthers, it was a first-place finish for Julia Ries in the 1,500 (5:52) that led the way.

   Second-place finishes went to Ries in the 800 (2:52), Carly McDonald in the high jump (4-4) and Peyton Spahr in the discus (73-10).

   The 4x800 team of Izzy Luensman, Leigha Hinrichs, Brielle Miller and Kinley Gassman finished third (13:09), as did Kendra Davis-Robinson in the 100-hurdles (20.24), Adley Rahe in the 200 (31.66) and Spahr in the shot put (22-7).

   Roslynne Russ, Gigi Moreno, Rynn Schnorr and Ayva Muller took fourth in the distance medley (5:33), same with Izzy Luensman in the 1,500 (6:17), Kendra Davis-Robinson in the 200-hurdles (36.21) and Russ in the discus (67-4).

   Fifth-place finishes include: Rahe in the 100 (15.54), McDonald in the 200-hurdles (36.96), Miller in the 800 (3:15) and Gassman, Schnorr, Muller and Harper Russell in the 4x400 (5:40).

   Hinrichs, Hannah Wink, Spahr and Gassman teamed up for sixth in the 4x200 (1:26) and individually, McDonald was sixth in the 100-hurdles (21.00) and Kendra Davis-Robinson in the long jump (13-8).

   Bella Gaul took seventh in the 100-hurdles (21.12), as did Muller in the 200 (33.86) and Russ, Hayden Donovan, Wink and Schnoor in the sprint medley (2:36).

   Chloe Kienzle, Hinrichs, Spahr and Gaul finished eighth in the 4x100 (1:06) to round out the Panthers top finishes.

   It was Maquoketa winning the team race, tallying 158 points. Cascade was second with 120, followed by Monticello in third with 110, Bellevue fourth (88) and Beckman (73) rounding out the top five. Northeast finished sixth with 66 points, Anamosa seventh (25) and Camanche eighth (16).
