Panthers place well at Anamosa Early Bird meet
Several high finishes against strong competition enabled the Monticello High School girls track and field team to finish third in the Anamosa Early Bird Invitational April 9.
The Panthers totaled 83 points, finishing behind Linn-Mar Red (159) and Anamosa (119). While Monticello didn’t win any events, the Panthers did have five top-three finishes, and double-scored in two events.
“I thought it was a great finish,” Monticello coach Vallerie Lynn said. “I am still moving kids around (in events), and I thought we did a great job competing as a whole team.”
The coach praised several athletes for strong performances at the meet.
“Triniti Etzel ran very well in the 3,000,” Lynn said. “Emily Schlarmann continues to get better as the season progresses. Freshmen Piper Hansen and Emma Hynick also continue to bring down times and compete very well.
“Goals for the future are putting together the best relays we can, and getting times down that can qualify for State.”
