MIDDLE SCHOOL RECAP

Cross country

     Monticello’s middle school cross country teams competed in the Cascade Invitational Friday, Sept. 15 at Fillmore Fairways.

     Monticello’s girls won with a score of 52, beating runner-up George Washington Middle School by 20. Lydia Recker, Claire Tuetken and Karle Kramer of the Panthers occupied the fifth, sixth, and seventh-place spots in the race, respectively.

     The Panther boys finished fifth of nine teams. Top finishers for Monticello were Harrison Ahlrichs, 31st place; Carter Kurt, 34th; and Jethiah Covel, 37th.

     “Both teams did really well on a very tough course,” Monticello coach Kolby Harms said.

 

Volleyball

(seventh-grade)

     Monticello’s seventh-grade volleyball team has faced four opponents so far this season.

     On Aug. 31, the Panthers played at Northeast of Goose Lake. Playing a total of seven games, Monticello won six of them.

     In the first set of games, Aleasha Schilling, Marissa Grant and Olivia Zimmerman had four ace serves apiece, and Brea Stahlberg had three. In the second set, Codie Luse had three aces, while Ali Parrish and Dori Paddock had two each.

     The Panthers then played host to North Cedar Sept. 5. In the first set of games, the Panthers lost 15-21, 21-10, 15-17. Madison Butterworth had three kills. Jaelyn Aitchison had eight aces and four assists. Mia Jaeger had one kill.

     In the second set of games, Reagan Schneiter served three aces, and Bella Mullen served two. The Panthers split four games, with scores of 16-14, 11-15, 3-15, 15-5.

     At Durant Sept. 7, Monticello won the first set of games 21-6, 21-11, 6-15. Stahlberg had six aces, Schilling had three, and Aitchison had two. Butterworth had two kills, and Aitchison had one.

     In the second set, the Panthers lost 15-13, 8-15, 11-15, 9-15. Nora Sperfslage had two aces.

     Next, the Panthers played host to Dyersville Beckman Sept. 11. They lost the first set of games 19-21, 10-21, 15-11. Butterworth had four kills, and Aitchison had four assists. Aitchison had three aces and a kill, and Stahlberg had a kill. Mullen and Stahlberg each had one assist.

     Monticello lost the second set of games 12-21, 4-21, 3-15. Kayla King served one ace.

     The Panthers lost the third set of games 26-28, 15-21, 15-13. Rylee Saunders-Flemming and Paddock had five aces apiece. Libby Busha had four aces, while Lauren Koehler and Luse had two each.
