As the Monticello girls track and field team started the indoor season, a pair of school records were broken and conference champions were crowned.

At the University of Dubuque High School Girls Indoor Classic on March 20 at the Chlapaty Rec. Center, the Panthers finished seventh in the 15-team field.

A pair of school records were broken, as Kenya Davis-Robinson jumped 17-2 in the long jump to take first place and break Ronda Wright’s record that had stood since 1981, and Mary Grace Lyons’ time of 10:42 broke the school’s record in the 3,000-meter run.

Lyons also finished third in the 1,500, finishing in 4:52.

“It was a great start to the season,” Panther coach Vallerie Lynn said. “This is a very complete team that scored points in distance races, sprints and field events.”
