Panthers take it outside

BOYS TRACK

Monticello went outdoors for a boys track and field meet for the first time this spring, and scored well in a number of events – particularly the sprints – during the Cascade Early Bird Invitational Saturday, April 1.

The top finish for the Panthers came from Aaron Loes, who won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 45.85 seconds.

Monticello had five additional top-three finishes, including a second place finish in the sprint medley relay, an event that is new to Iowa high school boys track this year. The Panthers were also third in the 4x100 and 4x200, third in the distance medley (the traditional 1,600 medley), and Max Keleher finished third in the long jump.

“The guys competed well in our first outdoor meet,” Monticello coach Greg Williams said. “Tyler Kuper had a personal best in the discus (taking fifth).”
