Panthers turn it up at home

     Living up to a tradition of performing well at home, the Monticello High School boys track and field team had its highest team finish of the season during its own invitational Thursday, April 13, finishing fourth out of 10 teams.

     The Panthers won three events and had a total of seven top-three-finishes while collecting 82 points. Northeast of Goose Lake won the meet with 147, Anamosa had 116 and Bellevue scored 115.

     Panther winners included a pair of distance runners. Aaron Loes won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10 minutes, 16.19 seconds. Tyler Hospodarsky won the 1,600 in 4:44.24.

     The third winner was the 4x100 relay team of Gavin Cooper, Andrew Tjaden, Taylor Manternach and Max Keleher, in 45.29.

     The Panthers were also second in the 4x800 relay, and third in the 4x200, shuttle hurdle and sprint medley events.

     Earlier, Monticello traveled to DeWitt Central to compete in the Saber Relays, where the Panthers finished seventh. Top finishes there included Loes, second in the 1,600; and the 4x800 relay, third.

     The 4x100 team had a season best, but then broke it two days later in the home meet, finishing in 45.29.

     Mason Reuter had a personal best throw in the shot put, Monticello coach Greg Williams noted.
