With top-three finishes in five events, the Monticello girls track and field team wrapped up its indoor season with a fifth-place finish in the River Valley Conference Indoor Meet March 21 at the University of Dubuque.

Two of those were runner-up finishes; the 4x800 team of Marisa Kehoe, Leah Koehler, Halle Recker and Ava Capron lost a tight one to Tipton.

“It looks like that is going to be another solid rivalry again this season,” Monticello coach Vallerie Lynn said. “On the anchor, Ava Capron ran a PR (personal record) and broke old PR by seven seconds.”

Also taking second was the distance medley relay of Gabi Barnhart, Ava Zimmerman, Keziah McQuillen and Koehler.

“Leah ran an amazing anchor leg and put us from fifth to second, losing to a solid Mid-Prairie team anchored by Danielle Hostetler,” coach Lynn said.

Finishing third were Dori Paddock in the shot put, Kehoe in the 400, and the 4x400 relay.

“Overall I thought we had a great night,” Lynn said. “The distance crew and throwers are doing really well right now.

“It was a great way to end the indoor season. We have seen our strengths and know what we have to work on for outdoors.”
