Pay attention to voting rights changes

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

Have you been paying attention to the political activity going on in Georgia recently?

It was recently reported that 21 states and maybe now more, age changing their voting rules and rights in those states. I also heard a report that over 400 pieces of legislation have been submitted in the USA to state legislatures for possible changes in the voting process across the USA.

Oh, and we must add Iowa to that list, also. The legislature has attempted to reduce several of the voting opportunities that were available and helpful to voters in the 2020 elections by Iowans.

The ability to mail in our absentee ballot, and the time to do it, has been reduced from 29 days to only 20 days; and now with Master General DeJoy saying he cannot guarantee the speed of the U.S. Postal Service. It is therefore questionable for voters to depend on the USPS any longer as well…

Our democracy is being threatened by the efforts to reduce and take away voter opportunities to cast our vote and have it count.

Again, I encourage everyone to explore, study up, and take an active role in improving the status of voting, especially if you are registered as an independent or Democrat voter. We need to work together to correct these political moves by our legislature that are limiting our privilege to vote, freely, timely, and conveniently.

There will be changes to this URL in the near future. Stay tuned!

Thank you,
