Popular vote would not elect Trump

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

Watching Trump do his “thing” for the second time is turning out as expected. Regrets seem to be piling up by those who voted for him as fast as the lawsuits to stop his attacks on the Constitution and the order in government we have become used to. This is not as easy thing to fix, and I am hoping it brings people to their sense of responsibility when they go to the polls in the future.

In the meantime, before rushing to defend Trump, give some thought to how we can retain a functioning government that never was intended to be a “business venture.” You cannot judge the efficiency of government against a profit or loss sheet. Our government was created to satisfy the needs of everyone within this country with the expectation if we all paid taxes according to our income, then it would maintain a basic level of service and a safety net in case of catastrophic events.

The President of the United States is President over all citizens, not just those he can arm-twist support from while the rest are on his enemies list! No one has ever been perfect in this job, but that hasn’t ever been put to such a test as Trump has brought to bear! He is, without a doubt, a serial liar and a convicted felon due to his own actions; no one made him do what he did himself! Protecting his “hand-picked” candidates for cabinet positions from FBI investigation when it comes to state secrets, is not only illogical but harmful to the county and its security! His so-called “mandate” from the people is pure hokum. More people voted for others then Trump; the popular vote would not have elected Trump.
