Staff report

Following her appearance in District Court in Cedar Rapids, Kelly Postel of Monticello pleaded guilty to two of three counts of acquiring a controlled substance (fetanyl and morphine) by misrepresentation, fraud, deception, and subterfuge. The plea agreement Postel agreed to also includes the dismissal of the third count of the same charge.

Counts one and two each carry the maximum sentence of “not more than four years in prison, not more than three years” or supervised release, and “a fine of not more than $250,000.” There is also a mandatory special assessment of $100. The court may decide to run the penalties consecutively, meaning the maximum sentence could be eight years in prison and a total fine of $500,000.

Postel will also be required to forfeit her nursing license as part of the plea deal.

Postel’s sentencing will be determined at a later date.
