The Midland High School boys golf team is about to begin the kind of season a team should be excited about. Now it’s a matter of being able to play.

“Our main concern now is the weather and course opening,” 12th-year head coach Kirk Park said. “These first few meets might be interesting.”

The season could also be interesting for the Eagles, who return seven letter-winners from a team that finished second in sectional play and advanced to districts a year ago.

Among them is senior Carson Rupp, who tied for second individually at the sectional meet last year. Four other seniors are back: Peyton Rupp, Carter Mohr, Ethan Orr and Griffin Gravel. Junior Slayder Hansen and sophomore Damon Huston have returned as well.

“We have a number of letter-winners who have been on board for three or four years,” Park said. “Hopefully the golfers will improve this season as much as they did last year.

“We should be fairly competitive in most duals we have. I just hope that we can get some course time for our young kids on some different courses.”

The coach said there is another reason to look forward to the season.

“We host both the (Tri-Rivers) Conference meet and the sectional this year, so that is to our advantage,” Park said.
