Maquoketa Valley is looking to improve greatly as the high school girls golf season begins.

“With five starters returning from last year’s team, we have a reason to be optimistic and excited for this coming season,” 10th year coach Tim Andrews said. “I feel we have a great balance, and should be in store for an exciting season.”

The returners are led by senior Kaela Clemen. Also back are juniors Kaya Knipper and Cecily Trenkamp, and sophomores Isabella Mensen and Alissa Bush.

Sophomores Ella Wulfekuhle and Emily Hogan also have experience with the team, and a host of newcomers will also vie to make an impact. In all, there are 15 girls on the roster.

The Wildcats were seventh in the Tri-Rivers Conference and eighth in sectionals last season.

“We feel with the experience we have coming back, we should be right there in the mix with the best of them in the conference,” Andrews said.

He is assisted by Ron Besler.
