With a solid corps of veterans and returning players, the Maquoketa Valley boys golf team aims for a higher finish in the Tri-Rivers Conference this spring.

The Wildcats were 13th in the conference a year ago, and sixth in district play, but sixth-year head coach Tim Andrews is optimistic about an upward climb, perhaps including a top-half finish.

“This year’s team should be very competitive and make some noise in the conference,” Andrews said.

The team has 10 returning players, including four who lettered last season: senior Austin Snyder, junior Morgan Hermanson, and sophomores Garrett Lahr and Tony Offerman.

Also returning are sophomores Nick Gibbs, Logan Johnson, Trayce Klostermann and Dylan Lane; and freshmen Jackson Hunter and Wyatt Steil.

“A strength of this year’s team is the experience we have coming back,” Andrews said. “With four veterans leading the way, it will be an exciting year for the boys.”

MV will have plenty of strong competition in the Tri-Rivers, with East Buchanan, Easton Valley, Lisbon, Alburnett and North Linn among the contenders.

Andrews is assisted by Ron Besler and Joe Winter.
