Midland will start the 2022 cross country season with three runners, all boys.

They are led by Milo Smith, a senior.

“I have talked to Milo about stepping up and leading,” seventh-year coach Jon Eganhouse said. “He has the most experience, and so far he has done a good job with helping and pushing the others.”

Senior Jay Bentley and and sophomore Jayson Ruley are also on the roster.

“For Milo and Jayson, I need them to mentally break into the 18s (minutes),” Eganhouse said. “They need to push themselves beyond what they think they can do. They both are capable, but need to excel more in the last mile.”

The Eagles compete in the Tri-Rivers Conference. Eganhouse said Maquoketa Valley for the boys and North Linn for the girls are likely team favorites.

As for his team, the coach said, “At this time, we have no runners on our girls’ team. I am hoping to recruit some when school comes into session.”
