Primary and General Election nomination papers now available

Whitney Hein, Jones County auditor and commissioner of elections, announces that the nomination filing period for the June 7 Primary Election and Nov. 8 General Election will begin Monday, March 7, in the Jones County Auditor’s Office.
Filing deadlines and paperwork differs for partisan candidates, non-partisan candidates, and non-party political organization candidates. Signature requirements also differ based on partisan and non-partisan affiliations.
Partisan candidates for the offices of County Supervisor Districts 3 and 4, County Attorney, County Recorder, and County Treasurer must file nomination papers in the Auditor’s Office between March 7 through March 25 at 5 p.m. Nomination petitions for Republican candidates must contain the signatures of at least 100 eligible electors of Jones County; petitions for Democratic candidates must contain the signatures of at least 85 eligible electors of Jones County.
Non-partisan candidates for the offices of County Supervisor Districts 3 and 4, county Attorney, County Recorder, and County Treasurer must also file nomination papers in the Auditor’s Office between March 7 and March 25 at 5 p.m. Nomination papers for non-partisan candidates require at least 75 signatures of eligible electors of Jones County. Non-partisan candidates for these offices will only appear on the General Election ballot.
Candidates for Township Offices must file an Affidavit of Candidacy between March 7 and March 25 at 5 p.m. These candidates do not have to collect signatures. Candidates for this office will only appear on the General Election ballot.
Candidates for Soil & Water Conservation Commissioner must file nomination papers in the Auditor’s Office before Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. Nomination papers for candidates require at least 25 signatures of eligible electors of the conservation district. Candidates for this office will only appear on the General Election ballot.
Candidates for Ag Extension Council must file nomination papers in the Auditor’s Office before Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. Nomination papers for candidates require at least 25 signatures of eligible electors of Jones County. Candidates for this office will only appear on the General Election ballot.
Nomination packets are now available in the Jones County Auditor’s Office and are also available from the Auditor’s election information page on the Jones County website www.jonescountyiowaelections.gov. Supervisor District maps may be viewed on the county website or in the Auditor’s Office.
