A proclamation read during the Monticello City Council meeting of April 17 recognized Monticello Heart & Soul for its “discovery of what matters most to the residents of Monticello.”

Heart & Soul has spent two years exploring community values and preparing value statements with the goal of providing guidance and direction to the residents and leaders of Monticello, the proclamation noted.

The organization has collected public input in a variety of ways, and has identified the following “deeply shared values that provide insight as to what matters most to Monticello residents,” according to the proclamation:

     • Monticello values the variety of local businesses that create jobs and support our community.

     • Monticello values a wide variety of educational opportunities that promote safe, healthy and fun activities for all ages.

     • Monticello values the people who create a small town feeling of trust and safety through their generosity and support.

     • Monticello values exceptional customer service at local businesses which enhances (its) shopping and dining experiences.

     • Monticello values faith, educational, and cultural opportunities which make (its) community a positive environment to live in and raise a family.

The proclamation was signed by Mayor Dena Himes.
