Protect your children

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

This letter is prompted by an incident that I recently experienced involving child safety.

As I parked in front of a local business, I observed a vehicle with a small child in the rear seat. The vehicle was running. I saw no adult present. I went inside the building and after confirming that I was addressing the owner of the vehicle, I expressed my concern for the safety of the child. He thanked me for me concern and left.

I am not a lawyer, nor am I in law enforcement, but I would guess that constitutes child endangerment. At the least, it is a very risky act.

Just because we live in the nice, quiet town of Monticello and feel safe, does not mean that we can ignore caution, especially when it involves small children.

I am sure that parent had no intention of hurting their child. But, good intentions do not always produce good results.
