Recycling denim for a great cause

Theisen’s Home•Farm•Auto has partnered with Cotton Incorporated and Blue Jeans Go Green, a denim recycling program for a third year. Customers can recycle any type of denim apparel no matter the condition at any of Theisen’s 24 locations across Iowa and Wisconsin. In return, the customer will receive a coupon toward the purchase of new denim. The campaign will run Oct. 1 through 31.

The collected denim is upcycled and turned into UltraTouch Denim Insulation, providing a portion of the insulation to communities in need. Organizations who have used this insulation include Habitat for Humanity homes. To date, Blue Jeans Go Green has:

• Recycled over 1,230 tons of denim

• Diverted over 2,500,000-plus pieces of denim from landfills

• Manufactured over 4,830,000 square feet of insulation

Over the past two years, Theisen’s has collected over 14,000 pieces of denim, which is enough to insulate over 20 houses. This year, the goal is to collect 10,000 items.
