Red Cedar Chamber to perform on Valentine’s Day

The United Church of Monticello is hosting the Red Cedar Chamber on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door for the concert and reception to follow.

How do you celebrate 25 years of musical friendship? With chamber music, of course!

Clarinetist Christine Bellomy will join violinist Miera Kim and cellist Carey Bostian as guest artist. The evening is titled “A Little Klezmer Among Friends.” But the centerpiece of the program is a new work by Red Cedar’s Emmy Award-winning composer-in-residence, Stephen Cohn. You won’t want to miss the chemistry between these three old friends.

Also featured in the program is the work of Iowa City composer, Michael Kimber, with several tunes arranged for the ensemble.

Klezmer is a musical tradition of the Ashkenazi Jews of Eastern Europe. In America, the tradition has been influenced by jazz, but remains strongly rooted in folk songs and dance.

This program is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The United Church of Monticello is located at 123 N. Chestnut St.
