The Red Cedar Chamber Music will be returning to Monticello, Iowa.

After a two-year hiatus, founding directors John Dowdall (on guitar) and Jan Boland (on flute) will join as guest artists with Miera Kim (on violin) and Carey Bostian (on cello).

The program is titled “Founders Return.” Look for old favorites, new favorites, great new arrangements of Dvorak and Bach, and a special appearance by Macavity the Mystery Cat.

The group will perform at the United Church of Monticello on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. (123 N. Chestnut St.). Admission is $10.

These four musicians have always treasured the opportunity to make music together. When Kim and Bostian took over for Boland and Dowdall in the fall of 2016, there were many projects left on the burner for the foursome. After two years, this is the first opportunity to reconnect Red Cedar’s audiences with the synergy of ensemble and purpose developed during the original directors’ tenure. Red Cedar has long been known for creating programs with a cultural, historical or musical narrative. Founders Return, however, is a program with a more personal narrative. The eclectic program is a mix of old and new favorites ranging from several brand new arrangements to the magnificent commission by Stephen Cohn that closed the founding directors’ final concert. Each piece has a personal story that the performers wish to share with the audience.
