Research and Results Forums slated by ISA

Goal-setting is a hallmark of successful farming operations and often accompanies the start of a new year. Farmers can add greater productivity, profitability and sustainability to their list and devise plans to accomplish them by attending one of four “Research & Results Forums” in February hosted by the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA).

The forum closest to Monticello will be Feb. 18 at Hills Bank in Washington, Iowa. Additional forums will be held Feb. 4 in Storm Lake, Feb. 11 in Red Oak and Feb. 25 in Ankeny.

“The ISA research team and the farmers we work with learned a lot during the challenging 2019 growing season,” says Ed Anderson, the association’s director of research. “Now, we have the opportunity to present the results and information to farmers seeking to improve their operations. We can’t wait to have those conversations while inviting them to work with us on future projects, trials and programs.”

“Farmer innovation is at the core of these forums,” says Scott Nelson, ISA director of agronomy. “We learned a great deal in our research trials conducted during the previous growing season. This information will serve farmers well as they prepare for a new growing season and the opportunities that accompany it.”

Nelson will present on the latest advances in soybean seeding rates, nitrogen management, Poly4 fertilizer mineral and more.

“The most beneficial outcome of these meetings is hearing directly from farmers on what they’re experiencing and ideas for the kind of research we should do to help improve their profitability,” he adds.

Attendees will also learn first-hand the comprehensive results of a conservation and profitability study involving 20 farming operations located throughout the state. The findings correlate the implemention of various degrees of conservation efforts with financial impact.

“The fact is we can make money on cover crops and reduced tillage,” says Heath Ellison, ISA senior conservation agronomist and one of the February presenters. “We’re looking forward to sharing these intriguing findings with farmers as they consider additional ways to enhance the performance of every acre.”

Each forum includes lunch and a snapshot of the latest policy and regulatory issues impacting farmer profitability and competitiveness.

Registration is complimentary for ISA research participants, $25 for ISA farmer-members and $50 for non-members. To register or for information, visit www.iasoybeans.com.
