     Retiring Monticello Middle School Principal Brent Meier was honored during the regular meeting of the Monticello School Board July 27.

     Meier was presented with a plaque and thanked for his seven years of service to the Monticello Community School District. He has been replaced by Todd Werner, who began work Aug. 1.

     Before presenting the plaque, Superintendent Brian Jaeger offered a tribute to Meier, recounting Meier’s ritual of greeting students as they arrived for school each day.

     “Brent genuinely wants to affect everyone else in a positive way. He wants everyone to have an fanastic day, and a fantastic educational experience, and just enjoy Monticello schools,” Jaeger said. “His energy and enthusiasm are contagious.”

In other board business:

     • Several handbooks were approved by the board during the July 27 meeting.

     The handbooks approved by the board included the Elementary Student and Parent Handbook, Elementary Faculty Handbook, Middle School Student and Parent Handbook, Middle School Faculty Handbook, High School Parent and Student Handbook, High School Faculty Handbook, Alternative High School Handbook, Activities Department Handbook, Panther Academy Handbook, and 1-to-1 Technology Handbook.

     • Also approved were the second and final readings of seven board policies, including those pertaining to Personal Business and Tutoring, Community Use of School Facilities, School Facilities Rental and Fee Schedule, School District Facilites Request Form, ICN Room Use Regulations, and two more Community Use of School District Facilities policies, one pertaining to Equipment Request Form and the other to Equipment Regulations.

     • In the consent agenda, the board approved the following appointments: Liz Medina as EL summer program coordinator; Callie Kromminga Smith and Rebecca DeWitte as EL summer program teachers, Smith, Medina and DeWitt As co-coordinators/teachers for the ELL Family Literacy and Outreach Program; and the list of fall coaches and volunteers.

     • The board approved new middle school Principal Todd Werner as Title IX Coordinator, and elementary school Principal Denny Folken as Title IX alternate.
