Midland freshman Trenton Rickels gained some valuable experience by competing in the State Class 1A Boys Cross Country Meet Oct. 27 in Fort Dodge.

Rickels finished 90th overall with a time of 16 minutes, 26.0 seconds.

“For being on the big stage, I thought he did fine,” Midland coach Jon Eganhouse said. “Trenton did say it felt strange to have the sidelines of the trail packed with spectators most of the way around.

“Looking to next year, we still have a young team. We will be bringing up at least one middle schooler that will hopefully give us a (complete) team. Milo Smith will be coming up next year, and I believe he can be as fast as Trenton.”
