River Valley restrictions released

The River Valley Conference, which includes Monticello, has announced its winter sports spectator guidelines for the upcoming season.

The guidelines are a combination of restrictions put in place by Gov. Kim Reynolds and decisions made by the RVC.

     They are as follows:

Face coverings

     • Face coverings are required for all spectators and shall be worn while in the building at all times. This is a conference-wide policy, so it applies to road games as well.

     • Individual schools will have their own policies regarding where seating is allowed.

     • The number of fans is limited to two people per athlete at this time. Gyms will be cleared between games, with only fans for the athletes playing allowed in the gym. Fans should arrive at the start of the game they are attending, and should leave at the conclusion of the game.

     • Concession stands will be available. Menus will vary by school.

     • Concession items should not be used to avoid wearing a mask. Fans may be asked to consume food in the commons area.

Spectators are expected to:

     • Accept personal responsibility for following public health and conference guidelines.

     • Practice safe social distancing as much as possible.

     • Be patient and use common sense.

     • Wear face coverings while in the building.

     • Abide by posted signage and individual school requirements.

     • Stay home if you show symptoms, have a temperature of 100.4 or higher, of if you have been in contact with someone with a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

Game schedule

     • High school basketball start times vary depending on facilities. For Monticello home dates, the schedule will be JV girls at 4 p.m., JV boys at 5:15 p.m., varsity girls at 6:30 p.m., varsity boys at 8:15 p.m. All games will be in the Monticello High School gym, and the gym will be cleared of spectators between games.

     • High school wrestling duals and triangulars start at 6 p.m.; quadrangulars start at 5:30 p.m.

     • Be sure to check rivervalleyconference.org for schedule changes and locations of games and meets.
