     Robert (Bob) Wahl, age 96, passed peacefully from this life on March 27, 2017, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long and full life.

     Funeral service will be held 11 Friday morning, March 31, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment at Oakwood Cemetery. The Reverend Reed Stockman will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello.

     Robert Lee Wahl was born July 18, 1920, at home on the Jones-Delaware County line to Ernest and Elisa Freese Wahl. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Monticello. He attended Lovell Township School No. 9 and graduated from Monticello High School in 1938. He earned his B.S. Degree in chemical engineering in 1943 from Iowa State University. During WWII he was a developmental engineer for Goodyear Rubber and Tire Co., in Akron, Ohio, making V-belts from the newly developed synthetic for military vehicles.

     One week after D-Day, on June 15, 1944, he married Ruth Reuter. After another year in Akron, he and Ruth returned to Monticello to manage the farm on Jones-Delaware Road. During his life he served on the Jones County Dairy Board, the local school board, the Farmers Mutual Co-operative Creamery Board that transitioned to the Swiss Valley Co-operative, and several church related boards and committees at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Bob was an avid conservationist and applied those conservation measures to his expanding farm.

     He is survived by sons and daughters: Janet Wahl, Richard (Terri) Wahl, Marilyn (Raymond) Peak, Annette Donald (Chris Hare), Eric (Janine) Wahl, and Charlotte (Tom) Strub. Also surviving Bob are eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law Evelyn Reuter.

     Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth; an infant daughter Karen; his brother-in-law Roy Reuter and his brother Earl.
