Robert "Buckeye" Bronemann June 27, 1941-Feb. 11, 2017

     Robert “Buckeye” Bronemann, age 75, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family following an extended illness.

     Funeral service will be held 10:30 Wednesday morning, Feb. 15, 2017 at the United Church of Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors.      Surviving is his wife, Carole; two daughters, Pam (Craig) Thompson, Monticello, Jackie (John) White, Anamosa; four grandchildren, Hannah and Hunter Thompson and Robert and Dalton Wilcox; four brothers, Mike of Anamosa, Larry (Ellie), James (Katie) and Gary all of Monticello; three sisters, Jean Grimm, Tucson, Ariz., Judith (James) Leggett, Urbandale, Penny (Dean) Ehrisman, Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald and two sisters, Suzie and Margie.

     Robert Lee Bronemann was born June 27, 1941 at Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of Donald and Theresa Ehlts, Bronemann. Buckeye graduated from the Monticello Community Schools. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he met his future wife Carole. Robert Bronemann and Carole Noel were married on Nov. 15, 1963 at Monticello, Iowa. Buckeye started working at Energy Manufacturing in 1963. He was employed at Energy for 40 years, and 35 years as a foreman. He retired in 2003.

     Buckeye loved Fords from the 1950s. He restored two for himself and helped a friend with another. When he wasn’t working on his car he loved to go fishing in Minnesota and hunt mushrooms in the spring and watch the Cubs and the Hawkeyes. Buckeye was an avid poker player. He played in area tournaments, quite often and had played in the Senior Texas Hold’em Tournament in Las Vegas.
