Roy Michael Postel

Roy Michael Postel, 67, formerly of Monticello, died Nov. 24, 2025, at his home in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, Iowa, with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Fr. Issac Boadu and Deacon Ed Goldsmith will officiate at the services. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
He is survived by four brothers, Joe (Catherine) Postel of Riverside, Ill., Marty (Holly) Postel of Cedar Falls, Dave (Kelly) Postel of Monticello, and Steve (Wendy) Postel of Alleman; and three sisters, Michelle Dirks (Dennis) of Coggin; Lisa Mootz (Lynn) of Monticello; and Angie Bertling (Frank) of Big Lake, Alaska. He is also survived by 12 nephews and seven nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel Mark.
Roy was born in Independence, Iowa, in 1958, the son of Harold J. and Kathleen M. (nee Evers) Postel. The family moved to Monticello in 1960. He attended Sacred Heart grade school and graduated from Monticello High School in 1976. He was an Eagle Scout.
He received a journalism degree from the University Iowa. He wrote briefly for the Waterloo Courier. He was hired by Merrill Oster’s agricultural advisory group and moved to Chicago in 1983. There he covered futures markets at the Board of Trade for more than 20 years.
He married Susana M. Liceaga Aug. 8, 1987, at St. Benedict Church in Chicago. They were happily married for 38 years. They both enjoyed traveling, listening to live music, baseball and an occasional opera.
