A former Monticello coach pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors after she was accused in 2023 of having sex with a minor student.

Jessica Rubin, 38, of Ankeny, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor, on Jan. 28.

She was sentenced on Feb. 9 by District Court Judge Ian Thornhill to two years in jail, all of which were suspended. Rubin also was placed on two years of supervised probation and fined $860 plus court costs.

A charge of sexual exploitation by a school employee, a Class-D felony, was dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Rubin changed her plea to guilty after previously pleading not guilty to all three charges.

Previous reporting by the Express states Rubin was working as a coach for the high school wrestling cheerleading team at the time of the alleged crimes.

She was charged in August 2023 after authorities said she “engaged in a pattern, practice and/or scheme of sexual conduct with (a minor male student).” These alleged crimes took place between January and September 2022, according to court documents.
