Runners attend state MS meet

CROSS COUNTRY

     Two Monticello Middle School students took part in the Washburn Classic, a middle school state cross country meet, on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Ankeny Centennial High School.

     Eighth-graders Emma Althoff and Kale Hansen were part of the 25th anniversary race, which was organized by coaches outside of state sanctions and support. It is an open event with no pre-qualifying race.

     More than 1,500 runners competed throughout four classes. In Class 2A, Althoff was fifth among 74 eighth-grade runners, and seventh overall, with a personal record time of 12 minutes, 37 seconds for the two miles.

     Hansen also ran a PR of 12:56 while taking 37th place overall out of 76 runners, and 34th place among eighth-grade boys.
