Saturday storm spawns EF-1 tornado

     Heavy wind and rainstorms blew through the Monticello area late Saturday evening, April 15. Power was out in parts of Monticello for at least an hour.

     According the National Weather Service, an EF-1 tornado hit the west central part of Jones County from that storm. Crews were in the area on Monday, April 17, surveying the damage.

     The tornado touched down east of Highway 151, near 180th Avenue. The tornado traveled east toward Amber Road. It caused severe damage to several farm properties in that area. The storm then traveled northeast and destroyed buildings near 150th Avenue.

     Winds from the storm were estimated at 100 mph.

     No injuries were reported.
